Cypress Gardens is the perfect Charleston Engagement Session Location
If you’re dreaming of romantic, timeless photos surrounded by Spanish moss and southern charm. Cypress Gardens is one of the most magical places you can choose. Known for being a filming location in The Notebook and popular hot spot in the Charleston, SC area. This secluded garden in Moncks Corner, SC, feels like you’ve stepped into a real-life love story. As a South Carolina wedding and engagement photographer, it’s one of my absolute favorite places to photograph.
Whether you’re planning engagement photos at Cypress Gardens, an intimate elopement, or even a full Cypress Gardens wedding, this location offers beautiful scenery that looks stunning in every season.

Permits & Fees
Cypress Gardens does not require a photography fee, however they do charge $10 per person to enter the park. This ticket includes a self guided boat tour, access to the aquarium, butterfly garden, as well as all of the trails throughout Cypress Gardens. They also offer season passes, which you can find more info on in the gift shop. The staff keeps things friendly and reminds photographers to stay respectful of the 30–45 minute time limit for each boat loop. Cypress can get super busy with tourists, locals, and couples / photographers. It is so important to follow their rules and be respectful so we can continue to photograph and enjoy this beautiful, hidden gem in Charleston, SC.
Best Time of Day
My favorite time to photograph at Cypress Gardens is right when they open at 9:00am. The lighting is soft and glowy, the way that the sun shines on the water in the morning is beautiful. It can get pretty busy in the mornings, especially on the weekends, so I recommend going during a week day if possible.
How to Do a Self Guided Boat Tour:
When you get to Cypress Gardens, walk over to the boat area. You’ll spot a big QR code on a sign—scan it to hop into the virtual line for the self-guided boat ride. Once they text you that your boat is ready, you’ll have 10 minutes to make it to the dock before they pass your spot to the next guest.
What to Expect from your Photographer:
As soon as we arrive at Cypress Gardens, I’ll check you in for a boat, get you settled, and explain the rules and where to sit. I typically stay on the outer loop of the trail and have you paddle your boat over to me as I photograph. You’ll get the same beautiful images from the trail as you would if I were in a boat with you.
If you want photos with the white bridge or other scenic backgrounds that require me to be on the water, just let me know ahead of time. I can bring an assistant to paddle my boat while I photograph your gorgeous memories.
Seasonal Beauty
Spring brings blooming flowers, summer brings lush greenery, fall adds rich warm tones, and winter still keeps that moody Southern charm. There’s truly no bad season for Cypress Gardens engagement photos… Although my favorite time to photograph at Cypress Gardens, is in the spring months when all of the leaves are super lush and green.
