Charleston, SC Engagement Photo Locations Guide

If you’re searching for the best Charleston SC engagement photo locations, you honestly can’t go wrong here. Between historic streets, moss-covered oaks, pastel architecture, waterfront views, and quiet gardens, Charleston has some of the most timeless engagement session spots in the South. As a Charleston wedding and engagement photographer, these are some of my favorite places for Charleston SC engagement photos that feel natural, romantic, and uniquely Charleston.

Downtown Charleston

Downtown Charleston is one of the most iconic places for Charleston engagement photos in South Carolina. The cobblestone streets, historic homes, hidden alleyways, and old Southern charm create the perfect backdrop for elegant and editorial-style engagement photos.

Why Downtown Charleston Historic District Photographs Well For Charleston SC Engagement Photo Session

The Historic District in Charleston has so much beauty to discover — pastel homes, ivy-covered walls, cobblestone streets, and waterfront views. It’s one of my favorite areas to explore with couples because there is always something new to see, and it gives that true Charleston feel to your engagement photos.

Some tucked-away spots include Rainbow Row, S Adgers Wharf St, Church Street, and so many others you’ll discover as we walk through the city.

The John Rutledge House

The area surrounding the John Rutledge House Inn is perfect for couples wanting classic Charleston architecture. The iron gates, soft neutral tones, and historic details photograph beautifully year-round for Charleston, SC engagement photos.

The best time for photos here is typically 4:00 PM through sunset for the most flattering light.

The Mills House

The iconic pink exterior of The Mills House Charleston has become a staple for Charleston SC engagement photos. The soft blush tones pair beautifully with neutral outfits, and it also works well when paired with a short session featuring the Pink Figgy Car. Morning light tends to photograph best here.

Washington Square Park

Washington Square is one of the most underrated locations for Charleston engagement photos. The oak trees, open green space, and surrounding historic buildings create a soft, romantic atmosphere without feeling overly crowded.

Hibernian Hall

Hibernian Hall is another one of my go-to locations in downtown Charleston for engagement sessions. The classic white exterior, black-and-white checkered floors, and massive front pillars give this space such a timeless and historic feel.

St Micheals Church

The area surrounding St. Michael’s Church is one of the most timeless locations for charleston engagement photos. Located on Charleston’s historic Four Corners of Law, there’s so much beauty and history woven into this part of downtown. One of my favorite spots near the church is the hidden alleyway just to the right side of St. Michael’s Church. The soft light, textured walls, and quiet atmosphere make it perfect for intimate, candid moments that feel straight out of a European street. It adds so much variety to an engagement gallery while still keeping that iconic downtown Charleston charm.

French Huguenot Church

The French Huguenot Church is one of the most recognizable and sought after locations in downtown Charleston for engagement photos, as it has such a soft, romantic feel to it! Steps away from the church, across the street is Dock Street Theatre – this location adds even more variety to your gallery with its historic charm, archways, and classic downtown character. It makes it incredibly easy to move between locations during your session without having to walk far.

Hampton Park

Hampton Park is one of the best outdoor locations for Charleston, SC engagement photos, offering massive oak trees, Spanish moss, walking paths, flowers, and wide open green spaces. It photographs beautifully throughout the day, with the trees and trails providing plenty of variety for different lighting and backdrops, whether you’re shooting in the morning, afternoon, or golden hour.

Other locations to visit outside of the city of Charleston

While downtown Charleston has so much to offer, there are also many beautiful parks, plantations, and beaches just outside the city that offer a completely different feel for your Charleston engagement photos.

Cypress Gardens is one of the most peaceful, nature-driven locations and a favorite for couples wanting something cinematic and peaceful. It’s another one of my most booked and popular spots for charleston engagement photos.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is known for its romantic bridges, oak trees, and classic Southern scenery.

For a coastal feel, beaches like Folly Beach or Isle of Palms are perfect for more movement-relaxed engagement session by the ocean.

Planning your Charleston SC Engagement Photo Session
